ONES TO WATCH: JULY 2020

Artists You Need To Hear About Right Now

Four unmissable artists, all in one place. The team at Slow Motion Panic Masters has four more suggestions for you all to pay attention to right now, or regret missing out on some of the most exciting music the world has to offer.

But first, make sure to follow our spotify playlist with the link below and tune in to hear our favourite tracks of June 2020 right now:

ROOTS RADDIX - MANCHESTER, UK

2019 @ruruubee

Roots Raddix need to be getting a lot more attention than they currently are. Releasing their latest EP 'Off The Bench' this month, this Manchester trio are the best thing to come out of the North-West since Rooney/Ronaldo/Tevez and are deserving, no, demanding of your attention immediately.

Comprised of Woddy Green, Layfullstop, and ZZ, The Slept On, this three piece find themselves stitching together the best elements of wide-reaching influences, fusing together classic 1990's East-Coast beats, gorgeous Neo-Soul keys and relentlessly clever bars into Manchester's most unmissable underground package. It wouldn't be fair, however, to compare the group to figures like Mos Def or Fugees. Despite similarities in sound, inspired from a golden era of rhyme-smiths and plunderphonics, everything that emanates from Roots Raddix's laid-back approach screams Manchester specifically. They are unique as much as they are talented - and that's a pretty staggering combination.

Reimagining classic styles of hip-hop and R&B, the Raddix are an essential voice in the UK underground right now, and you are actively making your days less enjoyable by not knowing who they are. As is the case for most artists in this style, this music fits any mood and any environment. Head to your streaming service of choice, put 'Lo-Fi' on and just *wait* for when Layfullstop enters the track for her verse. I screamed when it happened. My curtains set on fire. I fell off my chair. Flames, everywhere.

THE BUOYS - SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

2020 @april.josie

The Buoys are sick, and that's pretty much it. If you thought that Australia's indie scene already had its cup-runneth-over with the sheer scale of quality guitar rock music coming out of it, you'd be right, but there's even more amazing rock groups just begging to be listened to. And you can! Marvel at the power of the internet!!

The Buoys fit neatly into the impossibly rich category of incredible Australian guitar rock groups. Committed to a hazy fusion of punky surf rock, impressive guitar solos and exceptionally propulsive drum performances, this group is a venn diagram of all the great aspects of Patti Smith, Courtney Barnett and The Libertines, but all phrased wonderfully through the creativity of this Australian four-piece.

Releasing their latest EP 'All This Talking Gets Us Nowhere' just a few days ago, The Buoys have marked themselves out with one of the best guitar-led projects of 2020. The tunes are fast, energetic and timely. A perfect demonstration of the power of brevity in indie rock (something so often forgotten) their six song, sixteen minute EP is essential listening this year. Make sure you don't miss out on The Buoys.

BOY BANDIT - SAN JOSE, CA

We are very excited about Boy Bandit. An emerging talent from America's west coast, this artist is about to release something particularly enjoyable into the world of bedroom pop.

If there were doubts that bedroom pop had run its course after the endless emergence of the likes of Clairo, Boy Pablo, Cosmo Pyke and more, Boy Bandit serves to prove that there is life yet in the creativity of promising independent artists (and their bedrooms). Poised to release his debut single 'Lonely Boy' on August 11th, prepare for a criss-cross of compelling influences and an incredibly promising first single from this incredibly talented musician, alongside a feature from the excellent Girl Jacket.

There are shades of Still Woozy and Rex Orange County flowing through the spirit of Boy Bandit's music, and that's excellent company to keep, but he still sounds unique enough to ensure that those comparisons don't feel overbearing. Bandit isn't sitting in anyone's shadow, but he is offering an inviting reflection on the best that the genre has to offer. We really can't wait to hear more from this exciting artist and rest assured we will be keeping close attention on him for the future. Also, just look at that moustache. Undeniably, impossibly, irrepressibly cool.

WINESON - BARCELONA, SPAIN

Wineson are a band from Barcelona that collide worlds of indie rock and bedroom pop together, producing a satisfyingly soft sound that is both impossibly endearing and quietly danceable too. New track 'Lucky Monkey' is one of the best songs that we've heard in July 2020, but this group already has an interesting collection of singles to sift through. With an impressively consistent number of songs under their belt, this group is ready to be enjoyed immediately.

Moving in a rockier direction, the group's newest single is a really interesting demonstration of a versatile band. Where earlier songs leaned more into the sweetness of a Hippo Campus or a Fur-like sound, this newest single is the best Wineson have ever sounded. Layering a fantastic drum groove over quick melodic movements, this is an ideal song for summer situations. Make sure you're listening to Wineson right now.
